Canoeing

Open canoes, also known as Canadian canoes, are very versatile and can be used for exploring our local rivers and lakes whilst playing games and learning new skills. They can be paddled on their own or joined to another boat to make a stable craft, excellent for those who want little risk of tipping over. You can even rig a sail to propel you across the water.

Canoes can carry loads and as such are wonderful for exploring islands, following in the footsteps of Swallows and Amazons, or paddling to a shoreline tea shop – there is something for everyone.

Canoes can be paddled or sailed or, with the appropriate training, launched down white water rivers.

Overnight trips are very popular – after dinner, paddle down the lake as the sun sets, build a shelter or pitch a tent by the side of the lake and sit round the fire sipping hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows.

Canoeing is a relatively low impact activity which can improve health and fitness. Not only is it great fun, it can also be undertaken by people of any age and any ability. Led by our experienced instructors, everyone can appreciate the delights of being afloat on Coniston Water.
